Advent Calendar: 19th of December

19th of December

..................................................................................................

Bessie and Angus Buttercup were on a short walk through the snow covered fields of Marigold Creek. Minerva, Thomas and Sparky visited their friends in the Löffel’s house.

Suddenly someone called them: “Bessie? Angus? Is this really you?”

The two cows turned and looked at the wondered face of Edith Snow-Warren.

“Edith!”, Bessie yelled, “Oh my! I didn’t know you live here, too!”

The two woman hugged each other, “It has been such a loooong time!”

“What a wonderful surprise!”, Angus hugged her too, “Daisy didn’t told us!”

“That’s why we were so busy with the new house. While Lettuce and Clarence did a lot of the interior, we were often in Pumpkinvilles to fetch our last belongings.”, Edith explained, “Do you want to come with me? Bernard will be so happy to see you! He missed his best chess partner. Angus grinned, “Me too.”

Together they entered the new farmhouse and went upstairs in the cozy small flat, where Edith and Bernard lived.

“What a surprise!”, Bernard jumped from his chair (he was writing at his new book), “Bessie, Angus! It’s so nice to see you! I didn’t know that you’re also living here! Or is it just a visit?”

“No, we’re really living here!”, Bessie said, while they greeted Bernard.

“Gorgeous, we can visit each other all the time!”

Angus laughed, “Yes, and we two have a few open chess fights!”

The two men clapped hands, while promising each other to “fight until the end”.
Edith and Bessie rolled eyes, the last “fight until the end” was 10 years ago and it lasted two days (of course with breaks for food and wine and a nap… and another nap… and again some food… and so on…). The women were desperate at the end and couldn’t believe that their husbands really agreed in “standoff”.

“Oh, no… No! We don’t want a repetition of this fight!”, Edith said, still shaking her head, “That was horrible!”
The men laughed and winked at each other.

Together they enjoyed first some cups of tea and then Bernard brought some wine.

Not shortly after the four pensioners made strange jokes, giggled and played spin-the-bottle, while they chatted about the good old times.

It was very late, when Angus and Bessie returned home.
"N... Next week yo... you must vi... visit us!", Angus said, while he leaned himself against his wife.

"We will! Def... Definitely!", promised Bernard, while his wife happily agreed. "I'm so glad you are... you are... you are here!"

"Me too!", Bessie giggled, "And we will go shopping for those boots!"
While they said goodbye, Angus and Bessie slowly walked home ("Not too fast!", was Angus favourite sentence in the next hour). It has been a wonderful evening!

See you tomorrow :).

  4. I can't believe such good friends didn't tell each other about moving to a different city! Must be very hasty people, but I'm glad both of them will have company of their own age in Marigold creek. By the way, perfect positioning of Bernard in the picture where he greets Bessie and Angus while writing ;)
